This priest may not look so intimidating but knowing how to fight it properly is important! Whilst you may be a World of Warcraft Classic veteran when you’re at the point of Zul’Gurub, each boss, of course, has different tactics and strategies that they can use against you. Knowing what to anticipate is important, being coordinated with your party is important, else you’re gonna face a load of death and trial and error!

Venoxis is one of the five high priests. All of the high priests/priestesses must be defeated, so this guide is essential reading. Whereas bosses such as Bloodlord Mandokir are almost always done for their loot, it’s not compulsory. You should be well prepared and understand every boss that you are attempting to defeat.

Another note is to not engage with Hakkar until you’ve defeated Venoxis. Otherwise, you will find that you will enhance Hakkar with Aspect of Venoxis. You should always defeat Venoxis first, and there’s really no reason not to. This is because Venoxis is considered the easiest boss in the whole raid, so if you can’t conquer him, you will struggle to defeat anybody else.
Venoxis has two phases. In his first phase, he spawns four snakes. You should immediately kill all of these snakes, as in phase two, all enemies gain an increased damage modifier. If you do not deal with these snakes, you might have your party overwhelmed.

The snakes are considered beasts. So, you can use polymorph and hibernate (for mages and druids respectively), therefore you can focus on one snake at a time.

You should watch out for Holy Wrath, as it can inflict 300 damage to you, and it will chain to your allies near you. Each chain jump, the damage is increased by 30%, so 390, 507, 660, and so on. With others in range, this chain lightning ability will likely kill them. Venoxis can also heal himself and his snakes using renew, so, using hibernate/polymorph are helpful abilities.

In phase one, Venoxis is significantly weaker. Therefore, conserving mana is important during phase one. Also, melee DPS with any abilities that have tremendously long cooldowns will need to conserve these abilities/attacks. Phase two is really what you ought to be worried about, you’ll undoubtedly do well with phase one, as long as you remember to deal with the spawns.

You will want, at minimum, two tanks. One of your healers will need to be on the tank that’s targeting the boss. The other tank will aim to move the snakes from the boss. By moving the snakes out of range, Venoxis cannot use renew on them, as they will be out of range.

The other abilities Venoxis has in phase one are: Dispel Magic, Holy Fire, Holy Nova, and Holy Wrath. None of these abilities are particularly dangerous or novel. The cobras the boss spawns will have poison and spit, though. As previously stated, focus on dealing with these snakes one at a time. Melee DPS should be focused on these snakes.

Once you’ve got the boss down to half health, and hopefully, dealt with the snakes - phase two begins. Phase two is a lot more difficult, as the boss receives a 75% damage modifier increase. He also has new abilities that you must be aware of.

Poison Cloud is by far the most dangerous of all. Do not stand in these clouds, as each second you’re in one, you’ll receive a hit of 500 damage. It’s the job of the tank to position the boss away from the clouds so that the melee DPS can attack Venoxis without simply dying.

One thing worth noting, to mitigate the poison cloud, you can consider using ranged DPS instead of melee DPS. You also want to get rid of Venoxis’ mana, to do this, Hunters can use Viper String, Priests can use Mana Burn, Warlocks can use Drain Mana, etc. If you do not get rid of the bosses’ mana, expect far more spells to be cast against you.

In phase two, the main worry is poisonous abilities. All the abilities inflict poison. Venom Spit will do thousands of damage and can stack thrice, and the only way to avoid it is by not being in the range of the boss (roughly 25 yards). Virulent Poison isn’t something that you need to be overly concerned with.

However, once Venoxis reaches around quarter health, it can spawn parasitic serpents. Should a parasite reach you, you’ll be inflicted with 300 damage of the nature variety every two seconds. This ability totals for 10 seconds, so you’ll be hit with 1500 damage, quite a hefty amount.
